The Board of Secondary Education, Himachal Pradesh came into existence in 1969 as per Himachal Pradesh act no. 14 of 1968.  The Headquarter was in Shimla. More than 8 thousand schools are affiliated to HPbose.  The HP Board is overseeing the education in the state of Himachal Pradesh.  The board controls and regulates various government and schools and institutions that are affiliated with it.  At present, the board organizes the written examination for the following classes and programs middle, 10th and 10+2, JBT and TTC.   As many as five lakh students annually appear in the written examination organized by the board.
