Kazi Nazrul University Bengali is a public university in Asansol, West Bengal. The university has been named after the poet Kazi Nazrul Islam. The university was established in 2012. Assent of the Governor was first published in the Kolkata Gazette, extraordinary August 16, 2012. Anuradha Mukherjee was the first Vice-chancellor of KNU. KNU was established under the West Bengal Act XIX of 2012. The University has been named as a mark of respect to the rebel poet Kazi Nazrul of India who is also the National Poet of Bangladesh ( died in Dacca, 29th August 1976).
