Indira Gandhi National Open University JBT/ D.EI.ED Admission Form 2019
Indira Gandhi National Open University aims to prepare teachers for elementary stages of education, i.e., classes first to 8th. The aim of elementary education is to fulfil the basic learning needs of all children in an inclusive school environment bridging social and gender gaps with the active participation of the community.
The Elementary Teacher Education programme carries different nomenclatures like as BTC, JBT, D.Ed. Henceforth, the nomenclature of the programme shall be same across India, and it shall be referred to as the diploma in elementary education.
What is the basic difference between D.Ed & D.EI.Ed Course?
- Technically there are no differences except the course name.
- D.Ed and D.EI.ED courses are designed for elementary teacher training i.e. Upper Primary ( class sixth to 8th).
- Contenders may join D.Ed / D.EI.ED course after 12th class.
- Important points to remember – both courses should be two-year duration, the college/institute should be approved by NCTE.
- Students, if you qualified D.Ed OR D.EI.ED after 10+2 you can apply for the Teacher Eligibility Test exam ( paper 1), i.e for Primary Stage Teachers.

Educational Qualification: The untrained permanent teachers have passed 10+2 standard examination with 50% marks and above teaching at primary and elementary level (standard first to 8th) in recognized schools/board.
